I think y'all are blowing smoke - there's no way that any writer here could fail to find a story from the theme of this compy.

If only I had time to write I'm certain I could come up with an entry, maybe even more than one! Sadly that looks unlikely, but I wish you all well with your entries.

Well this is a good time to brush off an old memory and write about it.
Think I will start on a story and see if I make the cut. If I can't finish in time it will join my Story Profile LOL.
Still working on other stories, which I can't actually post on XNXX -shifty eyes- so I will have to drop those for this.
Wait...Why on Earth am I even considering a CAW entry?!? -slaps own head- Geez...glutton for punishment I am.

Its this launching a story into space and getting silence which is the depressing part. That's what makes CAWs so good, people take the stories seriously, and comment.

Absolutely, entries in the CAWs attract mostly constructive criticism, mostly from fellow authors/entrants, and certainly gives the writer honest appraisal of their work. Even though I rarely have time to enter nowadays I always try to give as much feedback as I can to each entry. The overall standard of the CAW entries seems to somehow improve with each compy, possibly because entrants get that feedback, and can learn from it, thus improving their entry for the next one.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record once again, I feel it's necessary to say the whole CAW Challenge concept isn't about winning. Yes, there's a winner so we can have a new host, and winning is a feather in one's forum cap, for what it's worth. However, the real benefit from entering one of these things is the feedback.

When we post on the story site, we get mostly nonsense comments. "kewl stroy bro mak moar" indicates the story was well-received but not much else.

When we post on the forum outside a CAW, we may get lots of feedback if the story hits the right readers' hot buttons. Most of the feedback will be positive and will come from fans of the writer or story genre. If a writer is very lucky, there will be actual discussion about the story and its presentation.

In a CAW, people don't pull punches. They find flaws in story lines, structure, and flow. Having those flaws pointed out can really help a writer. Most comments come from fellow writers or from astute readers who follow the series. Some reviews may seem harsh, but they're given by member under their own user name, so they're usually honest.

There's really no way to lose by entering. People who care about good writing, good storytelling, and creative adaptations of themes read and review CAW entries. For a veteran, it's a way to stay sharp on already established strong points and to try developing others. For a newb, it may be the best exposure possible on this website. For everyone, it's an opportunity to compare one's own ideas and writing with that of others.

About winning -- more than one writer won a CAW with his/her first-ever posted story. People with a lot of stories to their credit win often, but it's pretty much open. I suspect a number of past winners voted for stories other than their own because they liked them. In an anonymous CAW like this one, "brand identity" plays no role, so the playing field is pretty level.



In other words, write something.

 

Yeah really I know I'll never win a CAW but what I write is so weird it keeps everyone guessing if it's mine or not lol
